Hinged Cold Room Door
A hinged cold room door provides insulated access to chilled or frozen storage through a door leaf mounted on side hinges. The leaf closes against a sealing system to help limit heat transfer and air exchange while the entrance is closed.
Single-leaf and double-leaf configurations suit different opening widths and access requirements. Chiller versions serve refrigerated storage, while freezer versions incorporate heating provisions to help prevent seal freezing in low-temperature applications.
Hinged Chiller Doors — Positive-Temperature Storage
Hinged chiller doors serve refrigerated spaces typically operating above 0°C (32°F). Also known as walk-in cooler doors, they provide access to chilled storage in commercial kitchens, food handling facilities and refrigerated work areas.
For walk-in cold rooms, the entrance should accommodate routine loading, personnel access and the products passing through it. A single-leaf arrangement provides one moving panel, while a double-leaf configuration offers an alternative for wider access.
The thermal specification should reflect the room temperature and surrounding conditions. Opening dimensions and hinge placement must also allow the door to operate without obstructing nearby walls, shelving or circulation routes.
Hinged Freezer Doors — Heated Sealing Protection
Hinged freezer doors provide access to frozen storage operating below 0°C (32°F). Their insulation and sealing arrangements must suit the temperature difference between the freezer and adjoining areas.
For applications below −18°C (−0.4°F), Frigovetta equips freezer doors with heaters to help prevent the seals from freezing. The heating arrangement and electrical requirements form part of the selected door specification.
For walk-in freezers, room temperature, ambient humidity and access frequency should be considered together. These conditions influence the requirements around the doorway, particularly where warm, moist air meets cold surfaces.
The required operating temperature must be established for the selected model; a freezer designation does not represent one universal temperature limit.
Double-Leaf Hinged Cold Room Doors
Frigovetta also manufactures double-leaf hinged cold room doors. Two side-hinged leaves meet at the centre, providing an entrance arrangement for wider access requirements.
Opening both leaves makes the full configured passage available for larger items. The required clear width should account for the load, handling equipment and clearance needed during movement.
Each leaf requires adequate swing space. The centre meeting seal, surrounding frame and closing arrangement must work together as part of the complete door assembly.
Leaf configuration and temperature application are separate choices. Double-leaf hinged doors require the appropriate chiller or freezer specification for the intended storage conditions.
Installation and Door Selection
Coordinate the frame and fixing arrangement with the supporting wall or insulated cold room panels. Check clear passage dimensions, floor levels and the space needed for each leaf to open.
A hinged cold room door does not require lateral wall space to park a sliding leaf, but it needs an unobstructed swing area. Where that area is restricted, sliding cold room doors offer an alternative if sufficient lateral clearance is available.

- Insulated separation: The door leaf helps limit heat transfer between refrigerated storage and adjoining areas.
- Freezer seal protection: Door heaters help prevent seals from freezing in applications below −18°C.
- Flexible entrance layouts: Single-leaf and double-leaf configurations accommodate different passage requirements.
- Wider access when required: Double-leaf doors make the full configured opening available when both leaves are open.
- No sliding-leaf parking space: A hinged arrangement avoids the lateral wall clearance required by a sliding leaf, provided sufficient swing space is available.
